Title

The Black Sand Beach at Waiʻānapanapa State Park, known as Paʻiloa Beach, was formed from lav.a flows of the Haleakalā volcano that cooled and shattered into fine particles upon meeting the ocean, creating its striking black sand. This beach is not only a geological marvel but also holds cultural significance, tied to a Hawaiian legend about a princess named Popoalaea who hid in a nearby lava cave to escape her jealous husband, only to be discovered and killed, with the cave’s red shrimp symbolizing her blood. Catured in April 2025.
