Icehouse Canyon, near Mt. Baldy in the San Bernardino Mountains, is named for its historic use in the 19th century when ice was harvested from the canyon’s shaded, cool streams and stored in icehouses for transport to Los Angeles. The trailhead, about 55 miles from LA, also passes remnants of old cabins and mining sites, adding a layer of historical intrigue to its lush, forested path to Cucamonga Peak.
